Dr. Vachon holds a Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology and a Ph.D in Demography from the University of California Berkeley, a Graduate Certificate in Medico-Legal Expertise and Insurance Medicine from Université de Montréal, and a Law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
He has worked for several years as an epidemiologist calculating life expectancies in the context of litigation, working on cases for the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. He has been involved in cases touching a broad range of conditions, including cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and countless others. With colleagues, he has implemented new methods of estimating mortality for chronic conditions.
He has been a teaching assistant for Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Statistics and the Law. He has presented on life expectancy at the annual meeting of the Canadian Life Insurance Medical Officers’ Association, and has been a guest lecturer for the life expectancy module of the only Medical Expertise university program in Canada.
He has in the past worked with the Life Expectancy Project and the Life Expectancy Group. He is now the principal at Life Expectancy Consulting, providing expert witness services and mortality calculations, but also legal counseling and legal services related to life expectancy.
